Web Site: www.ghcc.com Hall County was established in 1818 and was named for Lyman Hall, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Like much of North Georgia, the county was once Cherokee Indian territory. Gainsville, which was chartered in 1821 is the county seat. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Hall County is a scenic and truly beautiful place to live, work, and play. The county is situated about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta, and is accessible by I-985 and Georgia 400. The county is a mixture of farming, poultry industries, and over 30 Fortune 500 companies. For recreation Lake Lanier is a major attraction with locals and tourists, and the beautiful North Georgia mountains are only 30 - 40 minutes to the north. There are seven golf courses and 11 parks throughout the county. Homes are available in a variety of styles and prices, and include a few gated golf and country club communities. Prices range from $120,000+ to over $2 million for custom waterfront estate homes. RECREATION Hall County has numerous public parks, Lake Lanier, Lake Lanier Islands, Road Atlanta, Lanierland Music Park, and Lanier Roadway. In addition, the North Georgia mountains are a short distance away and offer families an opportunity to fill a carefree afternoon or a whole day with diversions such as scenic drives, GAINESVILLE, - known as "The Poultry Capitol of the World", Gainesville is the county seat and most populous city in Hall County. The town which started as a trading post known as "Mule Camp Springs" at the intersection of two Indian trails, grew prosperous over time and eventually became a resort town with the arrival of the railroad in 1871. LAKE LANIER, while not an incorporated city, Lake Lanier is no longer just a weekend and vacation home setting. Full-time residential communities have grown up around the lake as new neighborhoods have been built to take advantage of the natural beauty and outstanding recreational amenities. |
